Throttle valve actuator, ME-SFI fault code description - AD07.61-P-4000-49LA

The throttle valve jams or is stiff, iced up.
1A Fault code
(USA ONLY Display on generic scan tool)
P2097 (-)
1B Engine 112, 113 as of 1/01
Fault code
(USA ONLY Display on generic scan tool)
P2097-[1]to P2097-[8] (-)
2 Fault storage After expiry of test duration and fault
Activation of the engine diagnosis indicator lamp (EURO3/4)
or CHECK ENGINE (MIL) malfunction indicator lamp USA ONLY
No activation
3 Checking frequency Continuous
4 Checked signal or status Current at actuator motor, close throttle valve direction.
5 Fault setting conditions  Current at actuator motor greater than 4 A on many occasions for longer than 1 s.
6 Check prerequisites
  • No fault in intake air temperature sensor
  • Intake air temperature below 0 °C
  • No fault in hot film mass air flow sensor
  • Throttle valve angle less than approx. 12° (position for actuator mechanical emergency mode)
  • No fault in battery voltage
7 IMPORTANT Check throttle valve for dirt.
Clear faults if no complaint is present whilst the engine is running and no further faults are stored.
Due to ice formation at the throttle valve, adjustment errors can occur at small throttle valve angles and thus safety fuel shutoff or mechanical emergency mode of the throttle valve actuator are requested. To prevent this where ice formation is detected, the ice formation emergency mode is activated with the following functions:
  • The specified throttle valve angle is adapted in the event of ice formation (throttle valve may remain open)
  • the engine torque is corrected by ignition angle adaptation
  • idle speed control is switched off
  • ice formation emergency mode switched off when the voltage is OK once more at the actuator motor.
