Knock sensor ME - fault code description - AD07.61-P-4000-12AA

    Knock sensors (A16/1, A16/2)
1A Fault code P2011 Knock sensor 1, on right (A16/1) (-)
(USA ONLY Readout on generic scan tool) P2038 Knock sensor 2, on left (A16/2) (-)
1B Engines 112, 113 as of 1/01 P2011-[1] Right knock sensor 1 (A16/1), signal implausible/short circuit to positive(-)
Fault code P2011-[2] Right knock sensor 1 (A16/1), signal implausible/short circuit to ground or line discontinuity (-)
(USA ONLY Readout on generic scan tool) P2038-[1] Left knock sensor 2 (A16/2), signal implausible/short circuit to positive (-)
P2038-[2] Left knock sensor 2 (A16/2), signal implausible/short circuit to ground or line discontinuity (-)
2 Fault storage Fault is stored immediately
Actuation of the engine diagnosis indicator lamp (EURO3/4)
or CHECK ENGINE (MIL) malfunction indicator lamp USA ONLY
The malfunction indicator lamp is not actuated
3 Checking frequency Continuous
4 Checked signal or status Knock sensor signal (comparison value calculated in the ME-SFI control unit)
5 Fault setting conditions 
  • The signal from the knock sensor must lie between 0.10 volts and 4.98 volts (direct voltage share).
  • The band width of the modulated noise signal must not be smaller than 0.05 volts (calculated in the ME control unit), otherwise no noises are recognized.
6 Check prerequisites
  • engine at operating temperature
  • engine speed greater than 2000 rpm
  • load higher than 40%
  • knock control enabled
  • engine not under full loading
  • no fault in crankshaft position sensor and camshaft Hall sensor
7 IMPORTANT There will be retarding of the ignition timing on all cylinders for safety reasons if a fault occurs.
