  1. Establish unfused components. These are, for example:

    Consumers of exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) assembly.

    Consumers of airbag (AB) assembly.

    Consumers of knock sensor system (KSS) assembly.

    Consumers of electronic ignition system (HFM/PMS/EIS) assembly.

    Break-in warning and anti-theft systems, e.g. ETW and immobilizer.

    Consumers of idle speed control (ISC) assembly and generator, starter, ignition switch assembly.

    Model 129: See wiring diagram binder "Wiring diagrams for passenger vehicles"

    Observe after-run time for electronic components:

    Model 129, 202, 208, 210 approx. 4 min., Model 170 approx.

    10 min. Model 163: 5 min. if engine temperature is < 100°C,

    10 min. if engine temperature is > 100°C.

  3. Read off total quiescent current on multimeter connected to battery. Note down value.
  4. Disconnect coupler and connectors from any quiescent-current consumers, and tie back so that they cannot be inadvertently touched.

    IMPORTANT The radio may cause quiescent-current consumption to increase by approx. 0.240 A (240 mA).

    The increase in quiescent-current consumption can be rectified by switching the radio on and off.

    IMPORTANT In the case of vehicles with auto-pilot system (APS), an increase in quiescent-current consumption of approx. 800 mA occurs after the APS computer is connected and persists for the time taken for the computer to run-up (approx. 30 min.).

  5. Read off total quiescent current from multimeter and note down. If the drop in quiescent current is 0.02A (20mA,) or ≥ 0.035 A (35 mA,) for the immobilizer control module: Component is OK.
  6. Reconnect coupler or connector to component.
  7. Repeat test on all quiescent current consumers as described above.

If the drop in quiescent current is >0.02 A (20 mA) or >0.035 A (35 mA) for the immobilizer control module:

Replace component.

To check, re-test quiescent current.
