Destination guidance  is the generation and output of driving recommendations, in order to guide the driver to the desired destination. The prerequisites of destination guidance include:

• constant map matching is in operation (occurs automatically),
• the destination has been input and
• the route has been calculated.

  The navigation processor constantly compares the route calculation data with the data from constant map matching, and derives the measures for further destination guidance from these. Depending on the position of the vehicle, a distinction can be made between two destination guidance system modes (see Figure):

• Destination guidance within  the digitalized CD-ROM map area.
• Limited destination guidance outside of  the digitalized CD-ROM map area (not relevant in ).
