1 Observe general information on chassis alignment IMPORTANT Following repair work forcefully move vehicle up and down several times before measuring. AR40.20-P-0201A 
2 Insert measuring plate (086b) in the cutout on the lower transverse control arm COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLSIMPORTANT The groove in the measuring plate (086b) should be at an angle of 90° to the direction of travel.
  • Clean measuring point at bottom wishbone.
  • Remove metal chips from measuring plate.
  • Measuring plate is magnetic, information on data carriers, e.g. floppy discs, credit cards, etc. can be rendered unusable.

3 Check vehicle level at front axle via wishbone inclination COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Attach measurement sensor (086a) (connecting cable pointing to center of vehicle) and store each measured value.
  • Left front measuring point 1
  • Right front measuring point 2

4 Check vehicle level at the rear axle via the rear axle shaft inclination. COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS Attach measurement sensor (086a) to left and right rear axle shaft (connecting cable pointing to center of vehicle) and store each measured value.
  • Clean measuring points on rear axle shaft
  • Left rear measuring point 3
  • Right rear measuring point 4

5 Adjust vehicle level at the front and rear axle Vehicle level outside tolerance at front or rear axle: ↓
Adjust vehicle level by changing the springs or spring rubber mounts.		  
    Model 202 up to 12/95 AR40.20-P-0300-01A 
    Models 170, 202 as of 01/96, 208
NOTES On vehicles with level control a too low vehicle level may not be corrected by changing the level controller link rod (control point): ↓		 AR40.20-P-0300-01B 
    Check function of level control. If in order: ↓
Adjust the vehicle level by changing the spring or spring rubber mount.
