Damage code Cause Remedy  
  Cause 1:  Remedy 1:   
  Pressure control valve / Rail IMPORTANT Perform the following tests: ↓  
  IMPORTANT Possible complaints: 1 Check injector smooth running correction values with HHT/DAS.  
 
  • DTC P1187 (negative standard deviation) stored in common rail control module.
  • Engine starts with long delay or starts only after a cooling period of longer than 30 min.
  • Engine idle surges when cold and warmed up (induced by load change)
2 Check rail pressure deviations with HHT/DAS.
IMPORTANT Maximum permissible pressure deviation 8 bar.
 
    3 Check fuel pressures in feed and return.  
    IMPORTANT If no faults are recognized: ↓
4 Remove pressure control valve, replace.
IMPORTANT Remove rail and convert pressure control valve because rail installation position is too narrow.

    5 Visually check rail hole for possible scoring or chatter marks from machining.  
    IMPORTANT If an O-ring is damaged: ↓
6 Remove complete rail, replace.
NOTES When converting thoroughly observe cleanliness and tighten mounting screws to prescribed tightening torque.
 
    NOTES Improper installation of one of the two O-rings during conversion also leads to one of the complaints specified above.  
  Cause 2:  Remedy 2:   
  Two-mass flywheel 1 Remove two-mass flywheel, replace  
  IMPORTANT Engine idle surges when cold and warmed up (induced by load change)
IMPORTANT In the event of complaint "Engine shakes when idling" and on vehicles with manual transmission.
