Removing and installing trailer coupling - AR31.10-P-8000E

1 Remove cover from trunk floor    
2 Connect quiescent current retention unit COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TOOLS *WH58.30-Z-1012-09A 
3 Remove battery   AR54.10-P-0005EA
4 Remove jack    
5 Remove jack holder    
6 Remove spare wheel    
7 Remove rear center assembly cover    
    IMPORTANT T-model AR68.30-P-4785A
8 Remove side piece in left and right of trunk    
    IMPORTANT T-model AR68.30-P-4780A
9 Remove rear bumper IMPORTANT Model 202 sedan AR88.20-P-2200E
    IMPORTANT Model 202 T-model AR88.20-P-2200EA
    IMPORTANT Model 208 AR88.20-P-2200K
10 Remove rear muffler   AR49.10-P-4940DA
11 Remove shield above rear muffler    
12 Unscrew trailer coupling socket (X58) from crossmember IMPORTANT 3 sheet metal screws, leave socket (X58) hanging by wiring harness.  
13 Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolt (8) with washer (7) from left and right vehicle side members on underbody IMPORTANTInstallation:  Use new bolts (8).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, stiffening bracket to side member *BA31.10-P-1003-01B 
14 Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolts (4, 2 bolts each) and remove crossmember (3) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Use new bolts (8).  
    IMPORTANT Support crossmember (3).
TORQUE SPECIFICATION Support crossmember (3).
 
    Bolt, crossmember to vehicle *BA31.10-P-1001-01B 
15 Check sealing ring (9) and replace if necessary    
16 Slacken self-locking nuts (6) in right side compartment and pull out counter tab (5) IMPORTANTInstallation:  Use new nuts (6).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut to counter tab *BA31.10-P-1002-01B 
17 Remove right stiffening beam (2) and stiffening bracket (1) from vehicle side member IMPORTANTInstallation:  The stiffening beam (2) and stiffening bracket (1) are labeled with an "R".  
18 Unscrew self-locking nuts (6) from left side member in trunk IMPORTANTInstallation:  Use new nuts (6).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Nut to counter tab *BA31.10-P-1002-01B 
19 Pull left stiffening beam (12) off counter tab (5) and remove IMPORTANT The left counter tab (5) is accessible via the vehicle floor.  
    IMPORTANT
Installation:  The stiffening bracket (12) is labeled with an "L".
 
20 Unscrew micro-encapsulated bolt (8) with washer (7) on left side of trunk IMPORTANTInstallation:  Use new bolts (8).  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Bolt, stiffening bracket to side member *BA31.10-P-1003-01B 
21 Remove left stiffening bracket (11) from side member IMPORTANTInstallation:  The stiffening bracket (11) is labeled with an "L".  
22 Install in the reverse order IMPORTANT Tighten all bolts (4, 8) and nuts (6) finger-tight, align trailer coupling and then tighten to the specified torque.
