The main tasks of the extended-activity module (EAM) (N10/1)  are as follows:

• Controlling the door courtesy lights
• Disabling mirror dimming
• Controlling the headlamp cleaning system (HCS)
• Controlling the rear window heater (valid up to 31.08.01)
• Controlling the heated seats
• Supplying power to the sliding/tilting roof (SR) or lamella roof switch via the convenience feature (valid up to 31.08.01)
• Controlling the PTC heater booster (R22/3) (valid up to 31.08.01)
• Controlling the auxiliary fan (M4)
• Scanning the cruise control push-button switch (S40) and relaying this data to the control module (DAS, N73/1)

New features as of 01.09.01 

• Controlling windshield wiper speed 1 or 2
• Actuating the automatic headlamp range adjustment (AHRA)
• Actuating the left and right front headlamps
• Emergency light function for proper functioning of the low beam in the event of failure of the all-activity module (AAM) (N10) and CAN communications between the all-activity module (AAM) (N10) and the extended-activity module (EAM) (N10/1)

To perform these tasks the extended-activity module (AAM) (EAM) (N10/1)  scans various signals and switches direct.

Over the engine compartment CAN the extended-activity module (EAM) (N10/1)  exchanges data with other control modules.

Diagnosis 

Diagnosis is performed with the STAR Diagnosis tool. For this purpose, the extended-activity module (EAM) (N10/1)  has a dedicated diagnostic line.

This line is also used for diagnosing the all-activity module (AAM) (N10)  , the transfer case control module (N78)  and, as of 1.9.00, the trip computer (TRIP) control module (N41)  .

The extended-activity module (EAM) (N10/1)  is linked with the all-activity module (AAM) (N10)  over the engine compartment CAN  .

When terminal 15 is off, the CAN (N10 - N10/1)  is responsible for communications between the all-activity module (AAM) (N10)  and the extended-activity module (EAM) (N10/1)  .

The CAN (N10 - N10/1)  is a stand-alone CAN link between the all-activity module (AAM) (N10)  and the extended-activity module (EAM) (N10/1). No other  control modules are connected to the CAN (N10 - N10/1)  .
