Washer fluid level switch, location The windshield washer fluid level switch (S42)  is installed in the windshield washer fluid reservoir. The reservoir is located at the front of the engine compartment on the left side.
Washer fluid level switch, task
  • Detects the washer fluid level
  • Actuates the low windshield washer fluid level indicator lamp (A1e13)  at less than 1/3 capacity.
Washer fluid level switch, design The switch consists of two electrodes cast together. The connection takes the form of a plug connector.
The windshield washer fluid level switch (S42)  is connected with the instrument cluster (A1)  by a separate line.
Washer fluid level switch, Function The contact is broken when the electrodes are no longer immersed in water. The instrument cluster (A1)  thereby detects a change in resistance.
The use of alternating current inhibits the decomposition of the electrodes.
