Instrument Panels - CLK320, CLK430, E55, E300, E320 & E430: Description
Instrument cluster uses analog type gauges which include: speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, coolant temperature gauge, and LCD display, mounted under speedometer. Warning lamp indicators include: high beam indicator, charge indicator, CHECK ENGINE light, fasten seat belt reminder, exterior light failure, brake pad wear, remove ignition key from ignition switch, telescoping steering column not locked, low engine oil and engine coolant levels and low windshield washer level. See Fig 1 .
Supplemental Restraint System (SRS), Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS), Automatic Slip Control (ASR) and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) malfunction warning indicators are also located on instrument cluster. See Fig 1 .
Speedometer is electronic, with the speed sensor located in rear of transmission. An electric oil pressure sensor is used on all models. Fuel and temperature gauges use variable resistance sensors.
When ignition is turned on, SRS warning lamp illuminates along with other instrument panel lamps. If no faults are in SRS, warning lamp will go out after about 4-10 seconds with engine off, or will go out immediately when engine is started.
If SRS warning lamp remains on, this indicates a fault exists in system. Lamp will remain on until fault is corrected and memory is cleared. If warning lamp fails to illuminate when ignition is turned on, bulb is faulty, and/or wire to bulb is shorted to ground. For further air bag information, see appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
If CHECK ENGINE light remains on, this indicates a fault exists in system. Light will remain on until fault is corrected and memory is cleared. If CHECK ENGINE light fails to illuminate when ignition is turned on, bulb is faulty, and/or wire to bulb is shorted to ground. For further information, see appropriate SELF-DIAGNOSTICS article in ENGINE PERFORMANCE.
