Removing and installing steering lock - AR46.10-P-0900A: Notes

REMOVINGINSTALLING Removing, installing     
1 Remove cover below instrument panel Model 129 ra68001290150x
    Model 140 ra68001400150x
2 Remove instrument cluster Models 129, 202, 208, 210 AR54.30-P-6015EA
    Model 140 ra54001406015x
3 Unscrew trim ring (36a) from dashboard using claw-type wrench (020) SPECIAL TOOL Figure
4.1 Remove coil for transponder from lock cylinder Vehicles with drive authorization system stage 2a (DAS 2a) as of 6/96  
    Models 129, 140 AR80.30-P-4515CA
5 Turn lock cylinder to position "1"    
6 Press in safety catch (36f) of connector (S2/1x1) and pull off slide in direction of lock cylinder

7.1 Detach control cable (37a) for parking lock on protective sleeve (36d) TORQUE SPECIFICATION With automatic transmission only
  • Bolted version up to 03/95
  • With bayonet lock up to 04/95
  • With slide lock (model 140.076 as of 04/95)

8 Press in locking pin on steering lock part (37) and remove protective sleeve (36d) with starter switch and lock cylinder NOTES The shift shaft (37f) in the steering lock part (37) must not be twisted out of position "1" otherwise the steering lock engages  
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS U-bolt for assembling protective sleeve on steering lock   WF58.50-P-4610-01A
9 Unscrew nut from fastening bolt (37m)    
10 Pull out fastening bolt (37m) upwards IMPORTANT To pull out the fastening bolt, release the jacket tube at the upper retaining bolts if necessary and lower carefully
With steering lock engaged and installed  :
The fastening bolt can only be withdrawn from the jacket tube by destroying the steering lock
 
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION Upper bolt, jacket tube to body *BA46.10-P-1002-03A 
11 Withdraw steering lock part (37) from the jacket tube IMPORTANT With steering lock engaged and removed, see: ↓  
    Unlock steering lock
Note steering lock versions: ↓
AR46.10-P-0900-01A

12 Install in the reverse order
