Lining thickness of brake pads (43) check on front and rear brakes (visual check, brake pads installed) replace brake Note pads, if required (RI 42-0160).
NOTE: Observe recommended limit (see table) to ensure that wear limit is not exceeded before next maintenance service.

Brake discs (61) check for cracks and scoring.
It is not necessary to replace ventilated brake discs with hairline cracks with a length up to 25 mm resulting from high stress. Replace brake discs with gaping cracks and scoring deeper than 0.5 mm immediately (RI 42-0220, 42-0228).
Brake disc (61) check for contamination.
Brake discs which are heavily contaminated - recognizable by grey or blue discoloration of braking surfaces - must be cleaned with cleaning pads at extra cost (RI 42-0260).
Brake disc thickness measure with caliper gauge (035) (arrow).
Observe wear limit for brake discs under all circumstances.
Observe limit (see table) to ensure that wear limit is not exceeded before next scheduled maintenance.

Lining thickness on front brake pads (43) check (item 1). For this purpose position measuring instrument on hex. head bolts for spring strut and brake carrier mount on steering knuckle. The contact surfaces must be clean.

NOTE: If measurement of the brake linings indicates that the brake pads on the front brakes must be replaced, perform the work described below in addition at extra charge.
Brake disc thickness measure with veneer gauge (035) (arrow).

NOTE: Observe the wear limits for the brake discs under all circumstances. This ensures that the wear limit will not be exceeded before the next maintenance service, observe limits (see table).
Brake discs (61) check for contamination.

NOTE: Clean highly contaminated brake discs - visible on grey or blue discoloration of brake surfaces - with cleaning pads at extra charge (RI 42-0260).
Brake discs (61) check for cracking and scoring.

NOTE: It is not necessary to replace ventilated brake discs with hairline cracks up to 25 mm long, which can result from high stress. Replace brake discs with gaping cracks and scoring deeper than 0.5 mm immediately. (RI 42-0220, 42-0228).
Rear brake pads check for wear.

NOTE: The brake pads must be replaced when the distance between the eye of the pad backing plate and the cross spring is approx. 3 mm.
Dust caps and operation of pistons in brake calipers check.

  1. Check brake pad thickness. Press measuring instrument against steering knuckle. Position long pin against pad backing plate on inner lining and short pin against head of hex. head bolt for fastening cylinder housing - brake carrier.

Remove measuring instrument and read off brake lining wear on measuring pins. If less than six measuring rings are visible, more than approx. 6 mm are worn off of the total lining thickness of 12 mm on model 201.02/1 and 13 mm on model 201.03.

In such cases we recommend replacing the brake pads unless the customer desires to completely utilize the remaining lining until the wear indicator lamp comes on.

NOTE: The wear of the outer lining is measured with the short pin and of the inner lining with the long pin.
