C. Function 

General 

The outside temperature indicator in the instrument cluster requires the following to display the temperature reading:

• Outside temperature
• Speed signal
• Engine operating time and
• Coolant temperature (as of approx. 09/95).

Coordination of the outside temperature reading with the speed, engine operating time and as of approx. 09/95 the coolant temperature prevents a temperature reading from being displayed, which is too high due to radiation of heat from the engine when the vehicle is standing still or driving slowly. Outside temperature indicator (up to approx. 08/95) 

The temperature measured last is stored and displayed when the ignition is switched on or off and at speeds below approx. 20 km/h. If the temperature drops below the value stored, the current temperature is displayed. If the temperature increases higher than the value stored, the current temperature is displayed under the following conditions:

• When vehicle has been standing still 6 times as long as the engine ran previously: e.g. if the engine ran for 5 minutes the current temperature is displayed only after a delay of 30 minutes. However, the maximum delay is one hour.
• At speeds between approx. 20 - 60 km/h after approx. 5 minutes.
• At speeds higher than approx. 60 km/h after approx. 2 minutes.

Outside temperature indicator (as of 09/95) 

The current outside temperature is always displayed when the ignition is switched on or off and at an engine temperature < 60 °C. When the ignition is switched off and the engine temperature is > 60 °C the temperature measured last is stored and displayed.

When the ignition is switched on and the engine temperature is > 60 °C the stored temperature is displayed.

If the outside temperature decreases below the stored value, the current temperature is again displayed.

If the temperature increases above the stored value, the current temperature is displayed only under the following conditions:

• When vehicle has been standing still 6 times as long as the engine ran previously: e.g. if the engine ran for 5 minutes the current temperature is displayed only after a delay of 30 minutes. However, the maximum delay is one hour.
• At speeds between approx. 20 - 45 km/h after approx. 3 minutes.
• At speeds higher than approx. 45 km/h after approx. 1.5 minutes.
