Charging, checking the state and capacity of the battery - ra54001401130x(1130)
Checking state of charge, B. Charging, C. Load test Model 140
Operation no. of operation texts and work units or standard texts and flat rates:
- Checking state of charge
Pay attention to warning notes and safety precautions (Initial filling of the battery , A.).
TEST DATAElectrolyte density in kg/dm3 at 20 °C charged 1.28 semi-charged 1.20 discharged 1.12 Visual inspection for external leaks. Cell covers unscrew, screw in. Electrolyte density measure, min. 1.24 kg/dm3 . If the electrolyte density in one or several cells differs from the others by >0.04 kg/dm3 , renew battery. Electrolyte density <1.24 kg/dm3 , perform charging battery, perform B. Electrolyte level check, top up distilled water if necessary. If no fault found, perform load test C. COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TESTERAcidimeter e.g. Hazet - Charging
Preliminary work:
A. Checking state of charge
Quiescent current retention unit disconnect, connect. Battery disconnect, reconnect (Disconnection and connection of the battery ). Battery remove, install. NOTE: On vehicles with two batteries both batteries must be removed.Cell covers unscrew. Electrolyte level check, top up distilled water if necessary. Cell covers screw in. Use battery charging room due to generation of explosive gas.
Positive terminal (+) of charger connect to positive pole (+) on battery, disconnect. Negative terminal ( - ) of charger connect to negative pole ( - ) of battery, disconnect. On vehicles with two batteries the batteries must be charged separately.
Charger switch on, switch off. The charging current should be max. 10 % of battery capacity, e.g. max.
10 A charging current for a 100 Ah battery.Note for quick-charging Unscrew cell caps. Maximum charging current for 30 minutes 50 amperes then switch over to normal charging (see above). Electrolyte density measure, specification 1.28 kg/dm3 . ELECTROLYTE DENSITYElectrolyte density in kg/dm3 at 20 °C charged 1.28 semi-charged 1.20 discharged 1.12 NOTE: The electrolyte density is dependent on temperature and varies by 0.01 kg/dm3 for each 15 °C.Examples:
Electrolyte density at 20 °C 1.28 kg/dm3
Electrolyte density at 35 °C 1.29 kg/dm3
Electrolyte density at 5 °C 1.27 kg/dm3
COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TESTERSAcidimeter e.g. Hazet Quiescent current retention unit e.g. Hans Zeheter CMP 12.2 - Load test
Preliminary work:
A. Checking state of charge
Quiescent current retention unit disconnect, connect. Battery disconnect, reconnect (Disconnection and connection of the battery ). Battery remove, install. Electrolyte density measure, min. 1.24 kg/dm3 ; if electrolyte density <1.24 kg/dm3 , charge battery On vehicles with two batteries both batteries must be removed and tested separately.
Load test at 20 °C perform. Capacity/Ah Load current/A 74 230 100 300 Battery minimum voltage check, specification after 10 seconds approx. 10 V or >10 V. If specified value is not reached, renew battery. If specified value is reached, charge battery. Electrolyte density measure, specification 1.28 kg/dm3 . COMMERCIALLY AVAILABLE TESTERSAcidimeter e.g. Hazet Volt/ampere tester with load resistor e. g. Hermann, Electronic Quiescent current retention unit e. g. Hans Zeheter CMP 12.2
