Dismantling and assembling inner jacket tube - AR46.10-P-0500-02A
Dismantling
- Unscrew locking nut (92d) and remove lock plate (92e).
- Remove disk spring (70e) and thrust ring (70d).
- Push steering shaft (70g) out slightly, detach thrust ring (70b) and locking ring (70c).
Two locking rings are installed on vehicles with contact spiral.
- Press ball bearing out of the jacket tube using the steering shaft and replace.
Assembling
- Using a suitable tube, press ball bearing (70a) into the inner jacket tube (81b) up to the stop.
- Insert steering shaft (70g)
Comply with installed position.
- Press in second ball bearing (70a).
- Slide thrust ring (70b) and locking ring (70c) together onto the steering shaft (70g). Ensure that the locking ring (70c) locks into position correctly in the groove of the steering shaft.
Two locking rings are installed on vehicles with contact spiral.
- In sequence, push out thrust ring (70d), disk spring (70e) and new lock plate (92e) with the retaining lugs towards the locking nut.
- Screw on locking nut (92d) and tighten securely to max. 0.15 Nm (tighten slightly by hand).
Check steering shaft for ease of movement.
The steering shaft must not have any axial plate in the jacket tube and it must be possible to turn it without binding.
