Notes on avoiding damage to the ignition system - AH15.10-P-0002-01C
Engines 104, 111 with gasoline injection and ignition system (HFM-SFI)
- To avoid damage to the control module connect and disconnect the two connectors on the control module only when the ignition is switched off.
- Do not short-circuit circuit 1 of ignition coils to ground, e.g. anti-theft security.
- Install only original ignition system components.
- Do not operate ignition system at starting speed when ignition lines are not completely connected
- Do not attempt to perform tests when the engine is being cranked or running by holding ignition cable 4 close to ground, disconnecting a spark plug or pulling cable 4 out of the ignition coil.
- Every high voltage circuit must have a load of 2 kΩ (spark plug connector).
- If it is necessary to check whether spark is present during roadside assistance check only by holding a spark plug against a cylinder ignition cable. Ensure that the spark plug has good contact to ground.
- Before working at cranking speed, e.g. checking compression pressure, switch off ignition and disconnect connector "2" from control module.
Use of test equipment
- Connect and disconnect secondary measuring sensors to corresponding ignition leads only when engine and ignition are shut off.
- If the short-circuit fuse (cylinder comparison) is actuated and the engine shuts off it is not possible to perform the test with this tester.
- Do not connect test lamp to ignition coil terminals 1 and 15.
