Removing and installing contact spiral - RA46001248300X(46-8300)

Preceding work:

Cover below instrument panel removed (68-150).

Steering wheel removed (46-8240).

Steering wheel lock Allow to engage, front wheels in straight ahead position.
Connector, contact spiral/airbag (A45x1) Disconnect, connect, expose cable.
IMPORTANTObserve safety regulations for airbag 
Connector, contact spiral/fanfare horn relay (A45x2) Disconnect, connect, expose cable.
Fixing screws (32h) Unscrew sufficiently so that the contact spiral (A45) can be removed. The fixing screws (32h) are also used to prevent rotation.
Contact spiral (A45) Carefully remove from jacket tube, install. Withdraw cables of contact spiral (A45) through the jacket tube trim. When installing, ensure that the contact spiral (A45) is pushed on up to the stop and the recess (arrow) on the contact spiral (A45) aligns with the fixing lug (arrow) on the steering shaft.
 
NOTE: On vehicles with ADS, the steering angle sensor is clipped to the underside of the contact spiral and can only be replaced when the contact spiral (A45) is removed.

Dismantling the contact spiral 

The upper and lower sections of the contact spiral are clipped together. This connection is only disconnected due to the effect of excessive force or defective assembly. If this is the case, carefully coil up the contact spiral, compress carefully (do not trap the spiral) and re-assign the center position.

IMPORTANT

Center position of contact spiral 

The center position of the contact spiral is decisive for the satisfactory function of the airbag and signalling system. When removed, it is guaranteed by the fixing screws. If however the contact spiral has been turned, e.g.
