Removing
- Check whether the upper steering shaft has moved in to its full extent or is in the center position.
- 2.1 If necessary, move upper steering shaft to the center position if the longitudinal adjustment forward/back motor is still ready for operation. To do this make an electrical connection between the longitudinal adjustment forward/back motor connector (M20x1) and a vehicle battery. Connect green cable from (M20x1) to ( + ) and black cable from (M20x1) to (- ). The poles should be swapped round in order to change the direction of rotation of the motor.
- 3.1 If necessary detach slide (77) from jacket tube if the longitudinal adjustment forward/back motor is defective and the upper steering shaft has moved out further than the center position.
- Unscrew nut (62a) from connecting rod (62) on upper steering shaft bracket.
- Attach upper steering shaft (70g) with suitable sleeve (077) to nut and hammer out until the connecting rod (62) has moved out of the bracket (70h).

If the slide has been detached, the upper steering shaft (70g) must only be hammered out a maximum of 70 mm.
If it is hammered out further the thrust piece may fall inside the jacket tube and damage the surface (scores). The jacket tube (71) and upper steering shaft (70g) then have to be replaced.
- Unscrew and remove longitudinal adjustment forward/back motor (M20m1).
Installing
- Attach longitudinal adjustment forward/back motor (M20m1) with connecting rod (62) to jacket tube. The bend in the connecting rod (arrow) must point towards the jacket tube (71).
- Attach bolts of longitudinal adjustment forward/back motor (M20m1) and tighten in the specified order (1 to 4).
- Hammer in upper steering shaft (70g) using a suitable sleeve (077) until the connecting rod (62) is fully inserted in the bracket (70h).
- Replace and tighten self-locking nut (62a) of the connecting rod.
- 11.1 Attach slide (77) if it has been detached.
It must be possible to insert the slide easily. The groove and spring must align. If necessary, turn the upper steering shaft slightly.
- Adjust dimension (x), to do this make the electrical connection if necessary, refer to work step 2.1.
- Tighten nut (62b) of connecting rod (62).
