Detaching
If the upper steering shaft is in a position in which the nut of the lower steering shaft is not accessible, an electrical connection must be made between the longitudinal adjustment forward/ back motor connector (M20x1) and a vehicle battery.
To do this, connect the green cable from (M20x1) to ( + ) and the black cable from (M20x1) to (- ). The poles should be swapped round in order to change the direction of rotation of the motor.
- Unscrew nut (96) of lower steering shaft (80b) and upper steering shaft (70g).
- Remove lower steering shaft (80b) and tab washer (96a).
Broken off parts of the tab washer (96a) should be removed from the jacket tube.

Attaching
- Mount lower steering shaft (80b) on upper steering shaft (70g), observe installed position (arrows).
Installed position:
In the plan view, the triggering lug on the left (arrow a) and the recess in the right of the lower steering shaft (arrow b) must be aligned.
- First attach nut (96) to the upper steering shaft (70g) by approx. 1 to 2 thread turns.
- Mount new tab washer (96a) on the lower steering shaft (80b) and fix in position by pressing together gently.
- Attach lower steering shaft (80b) to the nut (96) and screw both parts together by continuing to turn as far as the stop.
The lower steering shaft (80b) has a left-hand thread.
The upper steering shaft (70g) has a right-hand thread.
- Tighten nut (96).
A set installed position of the lower steering shaft (80b) relative to the upper steering shaft (70g) is not necessary.
