Test 11: Rear Height Motor Test

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 1999 Mercedes-Benz E55, 1998 Mercedes-Benz E430, 1998 Mercedes-Benz E320, and 1998 Mercedes-Benz E300. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
WARNING: During this test, seat should move.
  1. Disconnect appropriate power seat control module harness connectors No. 1 and 4. See Figure. Using a fused jumper wire, connect terminal No. 2 at power seat control module harness connector No. 1 and terminal No. 1 at power seat control module harness connector No. 4. Using a second jumper wire, connect terminal No. 11 at power seat control module harness connector No. 1 and terminal No. 2 at power seat control module harness connector No. 4. If rear height motor runs, go to next step. If rear height motor does not run, check wiring. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . If wiring is okay, replace rear height motor and/or repair seat track as necessary.
  2. Connect power seat control module harness connectors No. 1 and 4. Using a voltmeter, backprobe between terminal No. 5 and 6 at power seat control module harness connector No. 4. If 7-12 volts exists, repair seat track as necessary. If 7-12 volts does not exist, check wiring. If wiring is okay, replace rear height motor.
