Removing and installing steering lock - AR46.10-P-0900C

REMOVINGINSTALLING Removing, installing     
1 Remove cover under instrument panel   AR68.10-P-1500F
2 Unscrew escutcheon (36a) from the instrument panel using claw-type wrench (020) SPECIAL TOOL   Figure
3.1 Pull transponder coil off lock cylinder Vehicles with stage 2a drive authorization system (DAS 2a) as of 6/96 AR80.30-P-4515F
4 Disconnect connector (S2/1x1) in lock cylinder position "1"    
5.1 Unhook parking lock wire cable (37a) at the protective sleeve Vehicles with automatic transmission  
6 Remove protective sleeve (36d) by pressing in the locking pin in the steering lock part (37) IMPORTANT The lock cylinder must be in position "1"  
REFER TO SHOP-MADE TOOLS U-bolt (010)for assembling protective sleeve on steering lock   WF58.50-P-4610-01A
7 After unscrewing the nut, pull the mounting bolt (37m) out of the steering lock (37) up through the recess in the box section IMPORTANTBeforehand in the case of the electrically adjustable jacket tube: 
  • Loosen horn/airbag clock spring contact a and turn signal indicator switch,
  • Remove jacket tube trim, a
  • Remove instrument cluster, a
  • Unscrew the upper jacket tube suspension, a
  • Loosen the jacket tube suspension and a lower jacket tube as far as possible
 
8 Pull steering lock part (37) out of the jacket tube    
NOTES The main shaft (37f) in the steering lock part must not be turned out of position "1" otherwise the steering lock locks in position When the steering lock is installed and locked in position: 
The mounting bolt can only be pulled out of the jacket tube by damaging the steering lock beyond repair.
When the steering lock is removed and locked in position: 
 
    Unlock steering lock AR46.10-P-0900-01A 
9 Remove ignition/starter switch (S2/1) from the protective sleeve (36d) IMPORTANT The parking lock valve (37h) for the parking lock interlock is clipped onto the ignition/starter switch  
10 Install in reverse order
