Location In housing opposite the drive pinion
Task The thrust piece (6c) ensures that the drive pinion (4b) and rack (7) mesh without any play.
Function Engine ON:  No steering play is detectable due to the immediate action of the hydraulic assistance
Engine OFF:  Only a low slightly increasing torque is detectable at the periphery of the steering wheel over a distance of approx. 50 mm. This results from the torsion range of the torsion bar in the rotary slide valve and should not be confused with play in the steering gear. Only after the steering wheel is turned further does the drive pinion start to roll on the rack, which is detectable as a slight pressure point and sharply increasing torque at the steering wheel.
