Test 3: Fuel Gauge Inaccurate Or Inoperative
NOTE:
Before changing value on signal generator, turn ignition off.
- Disconnect left and right fuel tank sensor harness connector. Using a jumper wire, connect terminals No. 2 and 3 at left fuel tank sensor. Connect Signal Generator (DTR-8416) between terminals No. 2 and 3 at right fuel tank sensor harness connector, according to manufacturer's instructions. Ensure fuel gauge reading at each setting of signal generator is as specified. See FUEL GAUGE TESTING
table. If fuel gauge readings are as specified, go to next step. If fuel gauge readings are not as specified, repair wiring. See WIRING DIAGRAMS
.FUEL GAUGE TESTING
Signal Generator Setting (Ohms) Fuel Gauge Reading 181.2-196.8 1/1 (Full) 132.3-158.7 3/4 84.3-107.7 1/2 36-57 1/4 21.7-32.3 Reserve 2-14 0 (Empty) - Measure resistance between terminals No. 2 and 3 at suspected fuel tank sensor. When fuel tank sensor is on empty, resistance should be 2-4 ohms. When fuel tank sensor is at full, resistance should be 94.5-100.5 ohms. If resistance is as specified, fuel gauge circuit is okay at this time. If resistance is not as specified, replace defective fuel tank sensor.
