Adjusting engine hood lock, safety hook - AR88.40-P-3030E

1 Open engine hood    
2 Check engine hood lock release cable for easy motion and ensure that it returns completely. IMPORTANT A free travel of approx. 2 mm should be present between the nipple (1) of the engine hood lock release cable and the unlocking lever (2) on the engine hood lock bottom section.
NOTES Replace release cable if damaged or hard to pull.

    Removing and installing engine hood lock release cable AR88.40-P-3100E 
3 Loosen screws on engine hood lock top section IMPORTANT Loosen screws only until engine hood lock top section can be moved, however, cannot move freely.  
4 Close engine hood    
5 Check gaps between engine hood and fender, correct if necessary. IMPORTANT See ↓  
    Adjust engine hood AR88.40-P-3020E 
6 Open engine hood    
7 Tighten screws on engine hood lock top section IMPORTANT Do not change position of engine hood lock top section.  
    TORQUE SPECIFICATION *BA88.40-P-1004-01A 
8 Press locking lever (3) on engine hood lock bottom section completely down    
9 Check function of engine hood lock bottom section IMPORTANT Locking lever (3) should lock in the bottom-most position. A gap should not be present between the locking pawl and its contact surface (arrow).
In the event of malfunctions replace engine hood lock bottom section. Refer to:↓
 
    Removing and installing engine hood lock AR88.40-P-3200E 
10 Press control hook (4) toward front IMPORTANT Safety hook (5) should remain in its original position.  
11 Release control hook (4) IMPORTANT The control hook (4) should return to the rear position from the force of the spring alone.  
12 Pull safety hook (5) with handle (6) on radiator paneling several times toward front. IMPORTANT The safety hook (5) should pivot back to the rear position easily and completely.  
13   NOTES Replace safety hook if function is impaired. Do not oil or grease!  
14 Smoothly position engine hood on upper frame cross member. Safety hook (5) should catch automatically.
