Stub Axles: Removal
- Drain gear oil from differential. Remove drive shaft and axle shafts from differential assembly. See DRIVE SHAFT and AXLE SHAFTS. Remove differential assembly from vehicle. See DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY.
- Remove differential rear cover. From inside pinion side gears, remove circlip. See Fig 1
. Pull stub axles from differential. Check seal running surfaces on stub axle shanks. Replace stub axles if seal running surface is worn or grooved.
- On vehicles with automatic locking differential (ASD), remove oil seal from differential using a puller. On vehicles with Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) and standard differential, remove oil seal from differential using a screwdriver.
