Automatic Locking Differential (ASD) - S320, S350, S420 & S500

  1. Turn ignition off. Remove cover from control module box. Control module box is located in right rear corner of engine compartment.
  2. Using Control Module Remover (140 589 01 33 00), remove ASD control unit from vehicle. ASD control unit is second module inward from right side of vehicle. Install Contact Module (140 589 04 63 00) into slot in control module box where ASD control unit was installed. Connect wiring harness from contact module to Socket Box (129 589 00 21 00).
  3. Using wire ends from contact module wiring harness, jumper sockets No. 2 and 27 on socket box. Start engine and let idle. Open bleed screw on right annular cylinder. Annular cylinder is located on differential. Let hydraulic fluid flow until fluid is free of air bubbles. Check reservoir and fill to proper level.
  4. Turn ignition off. Remove socket box and contact module from vehicle. Install ASD control unit into control module box in vehicle.
