Axle Shaft Inboard Constant Velocity Joint: Disassembly

  1. Remove boot clamps. Slide boot back, and drain oil. Remove end cover from inner Constant Velocity (CV) joint. See Fig 1 . Remove locking snap ring from shaft. Remove sleeve cap from CV joint.

  2. Press inner CV joint from axle shaft. Remove sleeve cap and boot from axle shaft. Mark CV joint outer ring, center hub and ball cage positions for reassembly reference.
  3. Disassemble CV joint by swiveling joint hub to remove 6 balls individually. Remove joint hub and ball cage. Swivel joint hub 90 degrees and remove from cage. Check all parts for wear and damage. If parts are badly damaged, replace entire inner CV joint.
