Check rear of engine for external oil leak, and determine cause Risk of accident & Risk of injury - AR01.40-P-8913-01HA

Flywheel, two-mass flywheel or driven plate removed 

Secure vehicle to prevent it from moving by itself. 

Wear closed and snug-fitting work clothes. 

Do not touch hot or rotating parts.

If it is not possible to clearly determine the cause of an external oil leak at the rear of the engine, proceed as follows:

  1. Clean test area free of oil, dry it and spray it with crack detector.
  2. Check engine oil level and correct if necessary
  3. Refer to installation of flywheel/two-mass flywheel e.g. drive plate.
  4. Attach starter (M1) to crankcase with bolts (2) of an adequate length.
  5. Support engine in installation position at the rear.

  6. With automatic transmission (except transmission 722.6): Bridge at start lock switch (S16/1) jack (arrows).
  7. Warm up engine, in order to notice leakages.
  8. Appoint repair measures relating to the leaky area.

IMPORTANT Stored faults which may occur as a result of removed cables or simulations during test operations, must be erased in the fault memory after completing the work.
