	Inspecting
1	Inspect engine for external oil loss	Rectify any leaks
2	Engine oil and filter change	The oil consumption test run should only be carried out with fresh engine oil; for this reason, an engine oil change should be carried out before the oil consumption test run. It is not necessary to change the engine oil if the last oil change was carried out less than one month before, or the car has not covered a distance of more 1000 km since the last engine oil change. 3	Park vehicle on a flat surface and mark parking place
4	Bring engine oil temperature to 80 °C	Measure oil temperature with the remote thermometer (02)	Fig 2
5	Switch off engine
6	Wait 5 minutes and measure oil level with dipstick (01); top up oil level to maximum if necessary	Inset dipstick (01) with scale pointing toward engine side  and withdraw after 3 seconds, read off oil level and note. Avoid overfilling oil, top up oil level to "max."  (value "0" see table)	Fig 3
7	Conduct test run	Conduct test run over a distance of 250 km (if measurement carried out by workshop personnel) or 1000 km (if measurement carried out by customer). If measurement is carried out by the workshop personnel, take into account the operating conditions of the vehicle at the customer's.
8	Park vehicle on the marked place
9	Bring engine oil temperature to 80 °C	Measure oil temperature with remote thermometer (02). If the engine is switched off to allow the oil to cool down to 80 °C, the engine has to be run for about 10 seconds before the consumption measurement (step 5) by blipping the throttle in order to ensure the same measurement conditions. 10	Switch off engine
11	Wait 5 minutes before measuring oil level dipstick (01)	Withdraw dipstick after 3 seconds and read off oil level	Fig 3
12	Calculate the oil consumption in liters /1000 km from the quantity of oil consumed (cm 3 ) and the measured distance (km)	Assignment of oil consumption to dipstick indication ↓
