Stub Axles: Removal
- Drain gear oil from differential. Remove drive shaft and axle shafts from differential assembly. See DRIVE SHAFT and AXLE SHAFTS . Remove differential assembly from vehicle. See DIFFERENTIAL ASSEMBLY .
- Remove differential rear cover. From inside pinion side gears, remove circlip. See Fig 1. Pull stub axles from differential. Check seal running surfaces on stub axle shanks. Replace stub axles if seal running surface is worn or grooved.
- On vehicles with automatic locking differential (ASD), remove oil seal from differential using a puller. On vehicles with Acceleration Slip Regulation (ASR) and standard differential, remove oil seal from differential using a screwdriver.
