	Removing/installing
	Risk of explosion caused by oxyhydrogen gas. Risk of poisoning and caustic burns caused by swallowing battery acid. Risk of injury caused by burns to skin and eyes from battery acid or when handling damaged lead acid batteries	No fire, sparks, open flames or smoking. Wear acid-resistant gloves, clothing and glasses. Only pour battery acid into suitable and appropriately marked containers.	AS54.10-Z-0001-01A
1	Disconnect battery ground cable	Do not connect a quiescent current retention device.	AR54.10-P-0003A
	Insulate cable lug of ground cable to provide protection from unintentional contact between disconnected ground cable and ground point W10

2	Remove engine compartment paneling at the bottom middle		AR61.20-P-1105AB
3	Remove air filter
4	Remove washer fluid reservoir for windshield and headlamp
5	Detach fan shroud above
6	Remove left and right bolt for engine support on engine mount		*BA22.10-P-1004-01L
7	Raise engine about 20 mm with engine supporting frame		Fig 3
8	Remove shield for propeller shaft	Only for 4Matic.
9	Remove right catalytic converter	Only for 4Matic.	AR49.10-P-5531A
10	Disconnect electric cables (1/2)	Remove protective cap.
		Nut for terminal 30 connection	*BA15.30-P-1001-01A
		Nut for connection circuit 50	*BA15.30-P-1002-01A
11	Press electrical line (3) out of the bracket (4) (if installed)
12	Remove bolts (5)	Starter bolt	*BA15.30-P-1003-01A
13	Take starter (M1) down and out
14	Install in reverse order
15	Carry out function check
16	Render electrical system operational	Carry out basic programming.	AR00.19-P-0200D
