Removing and installing camshafts at cylinder head - AR05.20-P-6992-09A

  1. Detaching camshafts  : use wrench 104 589 01 01 00 to rotate camshafts so that the tips of the cams at cylinders 3 and 9, respectively, (arrows) press onto the bucket tappets in the middle.

  2. Unbolt camshaft bearing caps (arrows) except at cylinders 3 and 9, take off.

    IMPORTANT Remove camshaft bearing cap (15) together with detached left inlet camshaft (9).

  3. Slacken bolts of camshaft bearing caps (arrows) at cylinders 3 and 9 in steps of one turn.

    NOTESCamshafts must not be twisted when detaching the camshaft bearing caps (arrows)  .

  4. Remove camshaft bearing caps (arrows).

  5. Take off inlet and exhaust camshafts.
  6. Inspect ease of movement of bucket tappets.

    Attaching camshafts 

  7. Oil all bearing points and bucket tappets.
  8. Insert inlet and exhaust camshafts into the bearing points; the tips of the cams should be pointing down centered at cylinders 3 and 9, respectively.
  9. Align inlet and exhaust camshafts axially at the axial bearing (arrows).

  10. Install camshaft bearing caps (arrows) at cylinders 3 and 9 and tighten bolts in steps of one turn, tightening torque.

    NOTESCamshafts must not be twisted when bolting on the camshaft bearing caps  .

  11. Hold camshafts with wrench (25) 104 589 01 01 00 when bolting on the camshaft bearing caps at cylinders 3 and 9 so that the tips of the cams are pointing down centered.

  12. Install the remaining camshaft bearing caps (arrows) and tighten.
