Poly V-belts - Check condition All engines (single-belt drive) - wh1351pkw0000x(1351)

Fuel supply interrupt (item 1).
 
NOTE: Switch off ignition. Do not crank engine with ignition/starter switch (except model 140).
Recording-type compression tester Engine connect (item 2).
crank with compression tester 001 589 76 21 00 and adapter cable 124 589 36 63 00, on model 140 with ignition starter switch.

IMPORTANTModels 129, 140 and engine 119 in model 124  It is necessary to disconnect the plug connectors to turn the crankshaft.

Faults resulting from this procedure, which are stored, must be read out and deleted on the following control units: 

Poly V-belts mark with chalk at easily visible point (arrow).
  Turn engine increment for increment and check belt for damage (see item 3 for damage patterns).
 
NOTE: Replace poly V-belt if damaged as indicated by one of the damage patterns.
Diesel engines   
Tensioning device check condition (item 4).

IMPORTANT Observe different versions.

Notes for gasoline engines with EZL ignition system 

IMPORTANT Due to the high ignition voltage it is extremely dangerous to touch the ignition system components (ignition coil, spark cables, spark plug connectors, connection socket) when

1 Interrupt fuel supply Models 124, 126, 201 except model 124 with engines 104, 111, 119 

Disconnect fuel pump relay (N16/4) before cranking engine.

Disconnect plug connection (arrow) for crankshaft position sensor on PMS control unit (N3/6).

Disconnect plug connection (arrow) on HFM control unit (N3/4).

Remove cover on accessories compartment. Disconnect plug connection (X26/17) for engine wiring harness on right side in driving direction.

Model 124 and model 129 with engine 104 

Remove cover on accessories compartment. Remove engine systems control unit (N16), for this purpose turn lever counterclockwise from position "1" to position "0" and pull up.

Disconnect plug connection (X26/17) for engine wiring harness on right side in driving direction.

Switch off ignition.

Disconnect crankshaft position sensor (L5) (green or black cable) on control unit.

IMPORTANT On model 140 with engine 120 the plug (L5) must be disconnected on both ignition control units.

Diesel engines 

While starting press shut-off lever (arrow) to prevent engine from starting.

2 Connect recording-type compression tester 

Connect compression tester to battery positive (terminal 30) and to plug (terminal 50) of plug connection (X 27).

For this purpose connect adapter cable 124 589 36 63 00 (01) to compression tester lead (02).

Model 124 with engine 119 

Remove cover on accessories compartment. Disconnect plug connection, starter harness (X27) and attach adapter lead (01) 124 589 36 63 00 to prevent fuel from being injected. Connect adapter lead (01) with lead (02) on recording type compression tester.

Remove cover on terminal block (X4/10) and connect terminal (B) on recording type compression tester to terminal block (X4/10).

Model 129 

Remove right cover (accessories compartment). Disconnect plug (S) from plug connection (X27). Connect crocodile clip (A) from recording type compression tester to plug (S) pin 1 (terminal 50).

Open cover on terminal block (X4/10).

Connect crocodile clip (B) to terminal block (X4/10) (terminal 30).

3 Damage patterns

4 Check condition of tensioning device 

Diesel engines 

Visually check following parts on tensioning lever mount (1st version up to 10/85):

Bearing bolt (30) of tensioning lever (360).

The collar of the bearing bolt (30) should be in contact with the timing case cover (28).

The tensioning pulley must be aligned correctly.

Tensioning device with bearing bushing.

The bearing bushings are worn out when play can be felt between the bearing bolt (30) and tensioning lever (360).
