Removal and installation of outer paneling on doors and fenders - ra88001400810x(0810)

WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 42 other vehicles, including the 1999 Mercedes-Benz S600, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S500, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S420, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S320, and 1999 Mercedes-Benz CL600. A. Front fender, B. Driver's door, C. Rear door, D. Rear fender Model 140

  1. Panelling on front fender 
    Driver's door open.
    Screw (11) unscrew (2 pieces, WAF8).
    Nut (12) unscrew front, top, (WAF7).
    Panelling (1) unclip at the top (2 clips) by using plastic wedge.
    Panelling (1) remove upwards out of the frame side member panelling (3 plug-in clips).
    Trimstrip (5) slide back and remove from panelling (1) (2 plug-in clips and 1 clip with threaded bolt).
    Reinstall in opposite order.
  2. Panelling on driver's door 
    Driver's door open.
    Screw (16) unscrew.
    Panelling (2) detach at base of door panel (6 clips).
    Panelling (2) push back  , whilst moving out the upper plug-in clips (18, 6 pieces) on the door panel.
    Panelling (2) remove.
    Trimstrips (6) on panelling (2) remove by removing the upper clips in advance (pull dowel and remove clip).
    Reinstall in opposite order.
  3. Panelling on rear door 
    Driver's and rear door open.
    Screw (17) unscrew.
    Panelling (3) detach at base of door panel (4 clips).
    Panelling (3) slide toward front  , whilst driving out the upper plug-type clips (19, 5 pieces) on the door panel.
    Panelling (3) remove.
    Trimstrips (7) on panelling (3) remove, to do this remove the upper clips first (pull dowel and remove clip).
    Reinstall in opposite order.
  4. Panelling on rear fender 
    Rear door open.
    Panelling (4) press off at the top and bottom on wheel house panel (3 clips) and remove rearwards (use plastic wedge).
    Trimstrips (8) remove.
    When installing panelling (4) the additional retaining lugs (2 pieces) must be attached to the rear of the wheel house fold.
    Reinstall in opposite order.
  1. Panelling on front fender 
    1. Open driver's door.
    2. Unscrew screws on the A-pillar and nuts on front fender (arrows).

    3. Unclip panelling (1) at the top (2 clips), using a plastic wedge.

    4. Remove panelling (1) upwards out of the frame side member panelling (3 plug-in clips).

    5. Slide trimstrip (5) back and remove from panelling (1) (2 plug-in clips and 1 clip with threaded bolt).

      NOTE: Since September 1992 the upper contact surface of the panelling on the front fender is protected with adhesive PE tape, part no. 005 989 81 85 10.

      The adhesive tape previously attached to the panelling, part no. 005 989 16 85, is no longer required from this time on.

      Also use the modified installation procedure for repair.

    6. Reinstall in opposite order.
  2. Panelling on driver's door 
    1. Open driver's door.
    2. Unscrew screw (arrow).

    3. Detach panelling (2) at base of door panel (6 clips, arrows).

    4. Slide panelling (2) back, whilst driving out the upper plug-in clips (6 pieces) on the door panel.
    5. Remove panelling (2).

    6. Remove trimstrips (6) on panelling (2) by removing the upper clips in advance (pull dowel and remove clips).
    7. Reinstall in opposite order.

      1. A Openings for upper fastening clips
      2. B Holes for lower fastening clips

      Arrow Hole for fastening screw

  3. Panelling on rear door 
    1. Open driver's and rear door.
    2. Unscrew screw (arrow).

    3. Detach panelling (3) at base of door panel (4 clips, arrows).

    4. Slide panelling (3) toward front whilst driving out the upper plug-in clips (5 pieces) on the door panel.
    5. Remove panelling (3).

    6. Remove trimstrips (7) on panelling (3) by removing the upper clips in advance (pull dowel and remove clips).
    7. Reinstall in opposite order.

      1. C Openings for upper fastening clips
      2. D Holes for lower fastening clips

  4. Panelling on rear fender 
    1. Open rear door.
    2. Press off panelling (4) at the top and bottom on wheel house panel (3 clips) and remove rearwards, by using a plastic wedge.

    3. Remove trimstrips (8).

    4. Install panelling (4). The additional retaining lugs (2 pieces) must be attached to the wheel house fold.
    5. Reinstall in opposite order.
