Engine cooling system Checking and correcting coolant level, checking antifreeze and corrosion inhibitor

The expansion tank or radiator cap should only  be opened at coolant temperatures below 90 °C.

Coolant level check
NOTE: Open expansion tank or radiator cap in increments.
In the event of coolant loss not resulting from normal operation: Obtain separate order, pressure-test cooling system, determine cause and eliminate.
Vehicles with expansion tank
When the coolant is cold, the coolant level should reach up to the mark "cold water level" on the expansion tank (arrow). If coolant is warm, it should be approx. 1 cm above this mark.
  Vehicles without expansion tank
Coolant level should reach up to specified markings (B or C).
Antifreeze and corrosion inhibitor check content in coolant, coolant composition and antifreeze table (see 2080).
NOTE: Use only antifreeze/corrosion inhibitors approved by Mercedes-Benz (see Specifications for Service Products, sheet 310, 325.0).
These products ensure particularly effective corrosion protection for all light alloy parts in the cooling system and are mandatory for all passenger car engines.
