B. Function

The electric headlamp range adjustment operates automatically. The rear and front axle sensors (A51, A52) sense every change in the vehicle level and signal the change to the headlamp range adjustment control module (N71).

The control module (N71) compares the vehicle level and headlamp adjustment. If necessary the headlamp setting is corrected by the control module (N71) via the headlamp range adjustment motor (E1m1, E2m1). A correction of the headlamp adjustment is accomplished only when a change in the vehicle level is signaled to the control module (N71) by the rear and front axle sensors over a certain period of time.

C. Components

Headlamp range adjustment control module (N71)

The control module (N71) is located in the passenger footwell behind the foot support. It processes the speed signal, the signal from circuit 56b and the signal from the front and rear axle sensors (A52, A51). After evaluation of the signals it actuates the motors (E1m1, E2m1) where applicable.

Headlamp range adjustment motors (E1m1, E2m1)

When the low beam headlamps are switched on and the ignition key is in position "2" the motors are synchronized, whereby the reflectors are moved to the bottom-most position and then set to the correct position depending on the vehicle level.

Front and rear axle sensors for headlamp range adjustment (A52, A51)

The sensors attached to the front and rear axle (A52, A51) send a signal to the control module (N71) depending on the vehicle level.
