General 

The infrared interior motion sensor is an extension of the existing anti-theft alarm system and provides additional protection, e.g. in the event of an attempt to break into the car through the side windows.

The interior motion sensor is activated about 60 seconds after the car is locked.

A pushbutton (6) is provided in the transmitter and receiver unit (A26/4) on the driver's side by means of which the interior motion sensor can be switched off (if e.g. children or animals are left in the car.

The interior motion sensor is automatically reactivated when the car is next locked provided the pushbutton switch (6) has not been pressed beforehand.

Function 

The transmitter and receiver units (A26/4, A26/5) transmit infrared light along the side windows into the interior of the car by means of infrared transmitter diodes through the lenses (8) in the caps (7).

The beam is reflected by the interior and by the side windows and converted by receiver diodes into an electrical voltage. If an attempt is made to break into the car, e.g. by smashing a side window, a change in the reflection of the IR beam occurs.

This change in reflection is analyzed and evaluated by the transmitter and receiver units (A26/4, A26/5) and also by the infrared interior motion sensor control module (N26/3).

If the analysis reveals agreement with stored break-in images, an alarm signal is supplied to the anti-theft alarm system (ATA) control module (N26).
