Damping, function - GF32.32-P-1003A
MODEL 129 as of 1.9.95,
140 as of 1.6.94, 210
with CODE (216c) Adaptive damping system (ADS II) with electronic level control
with CODE (217a) Self-levelling suspension on rear axle with ADS
Example illustrated on rear axle
The damping force is regulated in damping valves (Y53, Y54).
Each wheel has one damping valve installed between the spring strut (5) and its spring actuator (4). Each damping valve contains two electromagnetic valves (y1, y2), allowing four different damping force settings according to how they are actuated via the ADS suspension control module. The extremely short adjustment time (in the region of a few milliseconds) ensures that in the event of sudden changes in driving conditions, such as when taking evasive action, the optimum damping force setting is available almost instantaneously.
