Smog sensor, function - GF83.10-P-2113-01A

Function 

The smog sensor measures the concentration of carbon monoxide (CO) and nitric oxide (NOx ) actually present in the outdoor air and x compares it with an assumed average interior air quality stored in the A/C pushbutton control module. If the quantity of pollution in the outdoor air is significantly higher than the assumed interior air quality, the A/C pushbutton control module switches over to 100% recirculated air automatically.

The word "SMOG" appears in the display and can be switched on and off using the version coding.

As soon as the quantity of pollution in the outdoor air decreases to below the assumed interior air quality the system automatically switches back over to fresh air.

The smog sensor operates reactively:

The recirculated air flap is closed only after the sensor recognizes an increase in the CO and NOx values. Although this requires only a few seconds, some of the pollutants may have already gotten into the passenger compartment during this time. In order to avoid this the activated charcoal filter must be switched on to keep out the pollutants until the recirculated air flap is closed.

Pollutant-controlled recirculated air mode is not possible when:
