Safety measures for electronic control equipment before performing arc welding

The following safety measures must be observed to protect the electronic control equipment against excessive voltage during arc welding:

  1. Remove terminal on negative pole of battery and cover negative pole on battery.
  2. On vehicles with airbag disconnect the red, 12-pin test connector/plug connector after waiting at least two seconds after battery is disconnected (danger of erroneous actuation).
  3. Connect ground terminal of arc welder directly to part to be welded. Ensure that no electrically insulating parts are located between the ground connection and point to be welded.
  4. Do not touch electronic control equipment and electrical leads with the ground connection or welding electrode.
NOTE: It is not necessary to disconnect the electrical plug connector on any of the other electronic control equipment (e.g. CIS-E control unit, etc.).
