AIRBAG UNIT ON STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL
| Ignition key | turn to "0" position. |
| Negative battery terminal | unclip and mask. |
| Floor mat in front passenger's foot space | remove. |
| Foot rest | unscrew and remove. |
| Red (X11/13) airbag test coupling/plug connector | disconnect. |
| Both screws (arrow) | unscrew with Intorx screwdriver bit while holding the airbag unit. |
| Airbag unit | lift from steering wheel. |
| Plug connector | detach from the ignition capsule on the gas generator. |

NOTE:
After detachment, a short-circuiting bridge in the plug connector on the gas generator automatically becomes effective.

| Airbag unit | remove from steering wheel. |
NOTE:
No further work may be carried out on the entire airbag unit, which must be stored under personal supervision, and, for lengthy periods, under lock and key.
After dismantling, the airbag unit should always be stored with the cushioned side uppermost.

TIGHTENING TORQUE

Installation Note
Only the complete airbag unit is considered to be a spare part.
- The airbag unit must not be treated with grease, cleaning or similar agents.
- The airbag unit must not be exposed to temperatures in excess of 100°C, even temporarily.
- The airbag unit is highly sensitive to shocks. If it is dropped from a height in excess of 50 cm onto a hard surface, it may no longer be installed. Instead it should be returned to the Sindelfingen factory in special transport packing.
- Before installing the airbag unit, check that the earth cable has been disconnected from the battery, the terminal connected and the key set to position "0".
INSTALLATION NOTE
| Plug connector | attach to the ignition capsule on the gas generator (connector must engage audibly). |
| Airbag unit | mount onto steering wheel. |
| Both Intorx screws | screw down with Introx screwdriver bit, tightening to 6 Nm. |
| Red airbag test coupling/plug connector (X11/13) | connect. |
| Negative battery terminal | connect. |
| Ignition | switch on. |
NOTE:
The "SRS" warning light must go out after 4 secs.
Observe warning light when engine is running and steering wheel is turned to full lock in both directions. The light should not light up or flicker.
Test horns for operation and automatic reset of combination switch.
