Removal/Mounting of the wheels, Rotating if required - wh4050pkw0000x(4050)

  1. Removing, mounting wheels

    Retighten new rims after driving 100 to 500 km

    Wheel cover pull off, press on.
    Lug bolts and/or rim lock bolts (12) screw out, screw in.
    Tightening sequence "1 to 5".
    NOTE: The lug bolts, with the exception of the rim lock bolts, can be tightened with an impact wrench up to approx. 3/4 of the specified tightening torque. Then use torque wrench.
    See table for tightening torques.
    Torque wrench 001 589 67 21 00,
    socket wrench 126 589 04 09 00.
    Lug bolts and/or rim lock bolts check.
    Clean lug bolts and rim lock bolts, if dirty.
    IMPORTANT The spherical collar on the lug bolts or rim lock bolts must be free of grease and oil. Replace bolts if threads are damaged or zinc coating is worn off of bolt collar or spherical collar is corroded.
    Wheels remove, install.
      On light alloy rims with recessed mounting holes screw centering bolt (039) into one threaded hole at top before sliding on rim (arrow). The centering bolt is located in the vehicle tool kit or next to the spare tire.
    Tires check for damage and condition - measure tread depth (see operation item 4051). Rotate tires depending on tread wear pattern (see B).
    Rims check.
    IMPORTANT The spherical segments on the rims must be free of grease and oil. Check inside of wheel for dirt deposits; if necessary clean wheels on separate order.
    Check contact surface on rim for dirt deposits, clean, if required.
    Check centering and spherical segments as well as rim flanges for damage.
    Front wheel hub, brake disc drum check wheel contact surface for contamination and corrosion. Clean corroded surfaces with wire brush or emery cloth.

Wheels

Wheels rotate without changing direction of rotation
NOTE: For maximum mileage while simultaneously maintaining good handling characteristics: Rotate wheels with summer and winter tires depending on wear condition (see operation item 4051), between 5000 and 10 000 km according to experience.
 
Tire air pressure correct. See tire air pressure sticker in tank flap for specified value.
Wheels rebalance, if required, on separate order.
