Continental Tire System (CTS) tires

The Continental Tire System (CTS) is a tire system with limp-home capabilities.

Special rims are used so that the tires rest on the radial inner side of the rim shoulders. Support rings (43e) prevent the tire from separating from the rim if the tire deflates.

Even if the tire deflates completely, the driver can continue to drive the vehicle a distance of up to 200 km at a maximum speed of 80 km/h. The inner side of the tire rests on the rim shoulders.

The tires cannot be repaired with conventional workshop materials. The wheels must therefore be completely replaced with the appropriate wheel-and-tire assembly.
