Notes regarding the handling of brake fluid - AH42.00-U-0002-01A
WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 42 other vehicles, including the 1999 Mercedes-Benz S600, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S500, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S420, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S320, and 1999 Mercedes-Benz CL600. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
- Do not bring brake fluid into contact with the paint finish of the vehicle, since it contains ingredients, which act as a solvent on the paint. If in spite of all precautions brake fluid should come in contact with a painted surface, then the affected area must be rinsed immediately with plenty of water (do not wipe off brake fluid with a rag).
- Brake fluid is extremely hygroscopic, i.e. it absorbs the atmospheric moisture, which reduces the boiling point.
Therefore, brake fluid must only be stored in closed, well sealed containers (original container).
- Drained brake fluid must not be reused.
- The color of brake fluid is transparent to yellow and therefore can easily be mistaken with mineral oil products. For this reason, brake fluid should principally only be used from its original container and stored separately from mineral oils and other liquids.
