- When performing maintenance and repair work on the brake system it must be insured that no mineral oil, lubrication grease or similar is mistakenly introduced into the brake system.
- For flushing and cleaning of brake cylinders, hydraulic lines and reservoirs of the hydraulic brake system, only new fresh brake fluid must be used.
- Whenever mineral oil is found in the brake system, or if the presence of mineral oil is suspected, proceed as follows:
- Replace Tandem/master cylinder and brake fluid reservoir.
- Thoroughly flush entire brake system using new fresh brake fluid.
- Any brake component with rubber parts such as brake calipers, brake hoses, ABS-, ETS-, ASR- or ESP- hydraulic unit, pressure reservoir, high-pressure/return pump and charging pump must be replaced.
- Bleed brake system.
- Handling of ABS/ETS/ASR/ESP parts in accident vehicles:
When based on the severity of the damage on the vehicle or the impact position and exterior appearance of the hydraulic unit after an accident, (if it is recognizable), it appears that the hydraulic unit has received a severe impact, then it should be replaced.
Signs of damage for example are.:
- Kinked hydraulic lines
- Leaking hydraulic connections on hydraulic unit
- Electrical wiring or plug connectors damaged
- Metal block of hydraulic unit shows signs of damage
- Hydraulic unit has jumped out of mounting bracket and can not be reinserted again
If this is not the case, a thorough function test of the entire brake system should be performed regardless, as well as all the test steps pertaining to the solenoid valves and pump.
