WARNING: This page does not describe the selected car, but rather 42 other vehicles, including the 1999 Mercedes-Benz S600, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S500, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S420, 1999 Mercedes-Benz S320, and 1999 Mercedes-Benz CL600. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. Releasing pressure from hydraulic system

    Special tools

    IMPORTANT

In order to avoid accidents, before starting work in which the pressure lines on the level control units or the spring elements have to be loosened, the system must be depressurized.

Spray danger from emerging hydraulic fluid! Refer to "32-0630 Draining and filling pressure oil system ".

NOTE: Clean dirty line connections before disconnecting.
Lines and hoses which have been disconnected, as well as the connections on the units, should be closed immediately with plugs!

    Only use funnel with strainer

    126 589 12 63 00 (060) for filling.

  2. Reactivating steering angle sensor

If the battery has been disconnected or the voltage supply to the steering angle sensor (N49) interrupted, the ADS control unit switches to fault. The ADS indicator lamp (A1e27) does not go out.

The steering-angle sensor must be reactivated: With the engine running, turn the steering wheel from full lock to full lock. The indicator lamp (A1e27) goes out.

  3. Notes on test and repair work

Model 129 with level control unit

Before driving into multi-story car parks, car washes, pits, car lifts as well as on very uneven roads set increased vehicle level on the level control switch (S77).

All models

Always remove the body/wheel acceleration sensors (B24, B24/1) before performing any repair work (incl. bodywork) in which heavy impacts (from hammer, etc.) could generate excessive vibration at the sensor.

IMPORTANT

Modified acceleration sensors were introduced in 7/93.

Model 129: The wheel acceleration sensor (B24/1) must be installed with the wiring connection toward the front of the vehicle. It must also be attached to the wire for the ABS wheel speed sensor (arrow).
