Illustrated on vehicle with automatic transmission

IMPORTANT Ignition: OFF
Connecting rod (40, push rod) and check for ease of movement and condition;
Bowden cable (30) renew parts if necessary.
Bowden cable (30) check. Follower spring (26) must be touching free of play. If necessary, re-set with adjusting screw (29).
Connecting rod (40) attach at one side.
Idle stop check. Angle lever (1) must be resting against idle stop (arrow) of electronic accelerator actuator (M16/1) (contact audible).
Connecting rod (40) attach.
IDLE SETTING, ENGINE SIDE

Fulcrum lever (13) check, set. Check whether roller (15) is resting in fulcrum lever (13) free of tension. If necessary, adjust fulcrum lever (13) with connecting rod (40, push rod) so that the roller (15) is resting against the end stop free of tension.
Control pressure Bowden cable (11), only models with automatic transmission set. For this purpose, with control pressure Bowden cable attached, the tips of fulcrum lever (13) and relay lever (7) must be exactly opposite. Re-set if necessary with adjusting screw (11a).
FULL THROTTLE STOP SETTING

IMPORTANT On models with ASR ignition: ON  so that full throttle is reached.
a) Manual gearbox Accelerator pedal (24) with engine switched off, press accelerator pedal from inside car to full throttle stop. Angle lever (1) must be resting against full throttle stop of electronic accelerator pedal actuator (M16/1) (contact audible); release adjustable full throttle stop (36), if necessary, by turning to the left and pull out stop bolt slightly. Lock adjustable full throttle stop (36) again in the position which it adopts by turning to the right.
b) Automatic gearbox Accelerator pedal (24) with engine switched off, press accelerator pedal from inside car as far as the kickdown switch (S16/7) (do not operate kickdown switch). Angle lever (1) must be resting against full throttle stop of electronic accelerator pedal (EFP) actuator (M16/1) (contact audible); alter position of adjusting screw (29), if necessary.
NOTE: Models with ASR.
If the accelerator control linkage is operated from the engine compartment when the ignition is switched on, the EFP control unit will switch to emergency running mode. Switch off ignition in order to cancel the emergency running mode.
IDLE SETTING, CHASSIS SIDE

Accelerator pedal in idle position follower spring (26) must have a play of 0.5 to 1.0 mm. Adjust from inside car, if necessary, with adjusting nut (32).
Bowden cable (30) Grease with anticorrosion grease 000 989 87 15 10 between end piece and guide piece.
Electronic accelerator pedal (EFP) control unit fault memory read, erase if necessary (see Diagnosis Manual Engine, Volume 2, Index 0).
LENGTH OF CONNECTING ROD

Connecting rod (40, push rod) 110 mm adjustable
