Regular maintenance

If operating conditions and demands are normal, regular maintenance should be performed at the following mileage:

Vehicles with diesel engines up to September 1982:

Inspection every 7 500 km

Maintenance every 15 000 km

Additional operations every 45 000 km

Vehicles with diesel engines as of September 1982 and vehicles with gasoline engines:

Inspection between 1 000- 5 000 km

1st service between 10 000-12 500 km then every 10 000 km

Maintenance every 20 000 km

Additional operations to maintenance according to mileage/age in years

Maintenance is required at least once every two years when the mileage during this period is less than 20 000 km or 15 000 km respectively.

The maintenance procedure is given in the applicable worksheet as listed in the preface.

Engine oil and filter change

For diesel engines up to August 1982:

Every 7 500 km, however at least twice a year (spring and fall)

For diesel engines as of September 1982 and gasoline engines:

Every 10 000 km, however at least once a year when using all-season oils (for diesel engines in fall) or at least twice a year for all other multi-grade or single-grade oils (spring and fall).

Aggravated operating conditions

In the face of aggravated operating conditions or increased demands such as predominantly city or short-distance driving, frequent driving in mountainous areas, poor road conditions, high dust and mud deposits, operation with trailer, etc., maintenance operations may be required at shorter intervals, e.g.:

For diesel engines up to August 1982:

Engine oil change with filter change every 3 000 - 4 000 km.

Automatic transmission:

Oil change without filter change every 22 500 km.

For diesel engines as of September 1982 and gasoline engines:

Engine oil change with filter change every 5 000 km.

Automatic transmission:

Oil change without filter change every 30 000 km.

Check tires:

Tread depth, wear, damage.

In the face of heavy dust deposits schedule work in addition to maintenance on separate order as follows: Clean air cleaner element with perforated sheet metal reinforcement; replace elements without perforated sheet metal reinforcement.

Perform intermediate cleaning as necessary or whenever red field appears in maintenance indicator observation window.

On vehicles operated less than 10 000 km per year remove, clean and reinstall front and rear brake pads at extra cost. In addition check dust cap and ensure that pistons move easily in brake calipers.

At high outdoor temperatures check fluid level more frequently.

Special maintenance measures

Replace brake fluid  on models 124 and 201 up to 03/91 (except 124.036) as well as 107, 123 and 126 once a year  and on models 124 and 201 as of 04/91, as well as 124.036, 129 and 140 every two years  , if possible in spring.

Check coolant  prior to and during the cold season for proper concentration of corrosion protection agent and antifreeze. Replace coolant every three years.

Other work in addition to maintenance  according to mileage or age is listed in the applicable worksheet.
