Steering Wheel: Removal

- Before proceeding, follow air bag service precautions. See SERVICE PRECAUTIONS . Disable air bag system. See DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM .
- Remove air bag module. See DRIVER-SIDE AIR BAG MODULE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Ensure front wheels are in straight-ahead position. Remove steering wheel hub center bolt. Reference mark steering wheel-to-shaft position.
- Pull steering wheel off using hand pressure, or if necessary, use appropriate steering wheel puller. When removing steering wheel from shaft, use care not to break slip ring carbon contacts mounted at top of steering column.
