Oil Pressure Gauge & Sending Unit Test
- Turn ignition on. Remove wire connector from engine oil sending unit located on oil filter housing. Oil pressure gauge should indicate about 43 psi (3 kg/cm2 ). If gauge does not indicate specified pressure, check sending unit wire circuit for short to ground. If circuit is okay, replace gauge.
- Connect sending unit wire connector to ground. Oil pressure gauge should indicate no pressure. If gauge reading remains high, sending unit wire circuit is broken. Repair as required. To check sending unit resistance, remove sending unit.
- Install "T" fitting adapter to oil filter housing. Install a known good manual oil pressure gauge, along with oil pressure sending unit, to fitting adapter. With engine running, check resistance of sending unit when manual pressure gauge readings are as specified in table. See OIL PRESSURE SENDING UNIT RESISTANCE table. Replace sending unit if readings are not as specified.
